Principal’s Report: Assistant Principal Claudia Baldwin presented the report. The Professional Learning Committee (PLC) meets every 2 weeks for goals for each grade. Dec. 3 mtg. is for learning and to start visiting each classroom (Principal Kaufman and Vice-Princ. Baldwin). Positive behavior implementing strategy focus around: respect, responsibility, and safety; a matrix is developing.

9.30AM: students from Battle Creek Middle School will perform a band and vocal concert for Adams students.

There’s a new science and engineering initiative (sponsored by 3M). Science Fair for grades 4 – 6 to be held Feb. 26th. Adams is a MCA III Site: grade 4 is a pilot. Nurse Jacobson and a parent are working on a 2-year grant for wellness program (edible garden)

A memorial for teacher Denise Anderson is planned. The staff lounge will be named in her honor. Jan. 9, 2010 will be the Parent Fair at the River Centre: volunteers contact Judy or Claudia.

Windom School (Mpls.) officials visiting Adams in November. On Nov. 18th, meeting with District folks and an architect (parking lot issues and toilets for all kinder rooms).

Officer Reports:

President Dwight mentioned a big “thank you” to all volunteers: website, directory, Palabras, Geckler, box tops, school book fair, coffee sales, and parents who attend PTO meetings.

Treasurer Kristjanson passed out the current financial spreadsheet and described the on-going efforts to close out the 2008 – 09 budget and finalize the 2009-10 budget. He mentioned the new accounting software that he will be using. He went over revenue and expenses. Our revenue this year will be used to pay out expenses next year.

There will be a Fundraising Meeting as part of the January PTO meeting.

Secretary Boylan reported that PTO minutes for September and October were put on the list serve and can be found on the AdamsParent.org website. Boylan also reported that the PTO Executive Board met at 9:00 Thursday October 29th and discussed the budget. Officers brought President Leslie Dwight up to speed on the last meeting which included information on the Listserv. Officers discussed the November meeting agenda and adjourned at 10:00AM.

Follow-up Discussion Next Steps for PTO Listserv PTO officers described the discussion on the Listserv from the October PTO meeting. There was also discussion about fixing the current problems with the Listserv (an expected expense of $60).

President Dwight passed out a “Listserv Options and Plan” to those in attendance. The text described an overall plan, including draft guidelines for posting. The draft plan also laid out 2 Listserv options: 1) two separate Listservs (one as a discussion style and another Listserv as a “broadcast” only style; and 2)

2) a discussion Listserv and website email updates.

There was discussion and general weighing of the pros and cons of both options. A motion by Nikki Glasier was made to pursue Option #2. Kate Goodrich seconded the motion. Unanimous voice vote. President Dwight will send out the general plan and guidelines to the Listserv to solicit feedback and the executive council will look into implementation.

New Business

• “My Coke Awards” was discussed. Dwight noted that this is a relationship between a corporate entity and the school and therefore there is no role for the PTO. Principal Kauffman is looking into whether or not this would be appropriate at Adams.

• Campbells Soup Labels: like My Coke Awards, this is also an in-kind donation program. Several parents are looking into continuing efforts. There is no official role for the PTO.

• Kids Against Hunger will be Friday January 22, 2010. Keep tuned in for more details on the Adams Parent Website
