Community Building

Plan meals at meetings and coordinate food at conferences.

 

Fall Harvest Festival

An Adams tradition….this festival takes place each October. Volunteers are needed to help plan the event as well as help with the booths and activities on festival night.

Spring Carnival

Support and plan our spring event.  Volunteer opportunities similar to fall festival.

Fundraising Activities

Geckler Catalog Sales

Our main fall fundraiser; catalogue sales provide a substantial portion of the PTO budget. Help organize, distribute, process and run this event.

Time Commitment: 2 – 10 hours between September and November

 

Exercise/Read-a-thon

Our spring event wherein students get pledges for the amount of time they read and exercise. Help with marketing, organizing and tabulating pledges.

Time Commitment: 2 – 10 hours between March and April

 

Scholastic Book-Fair

The book-fair raises money for our wonderful library. It takes place during parent conferences in November and March.  Two volunteers are needed to coordinate each book-fair, and many others to assist during the events.

Time commitment: 2 hour shifts during book-fair, 10 – 20 hours for coordinators.

Coffee Sales

Organize and distribute sales for Velasquez Family Coffee. This is an ongoing fundraiser with the PTO receiving a significant portion of each packet of coffee sold.

Time commitment: Very Flexible

 

Box Tops/Kemps Lids

Help increase participation and process donations.

Time commitment: Very Flexible

 

Grant Writing

Research and write grants to support the International Intern program, which brings Interns from Latin America and Spain to assist in the classroom.

Time commitment: Very Flexible

 

Volunteer Support

Host an Intern

Open your home to one of our interns!  Adams families provide room and board to interns while they are here in Minnesota.

The interns are an integral part of our children’s school experience. It takes an enormous amount of energy to coordinate their work at Adams, and volunteers are needed to assist with transportation, coordinate social events, review applications, etc.

Be a support family for one the Interns.

Time commitment: Very Flexible

 

Library Volunteer

Shelve, repair and assist librarian as needed. Flexible hours and time commitment. Great for grandparents and other family members looking to get involved.

Library Committee

Meets twice a year to discuss with the librarian the needs of the library. Distributes funds raised by the PTO and facilitates volunteer support

Share your Spanish translation skills! Contact Satty Flaherty-Echeverria, Palabras co-editor, to find out how you can help. Translators can spend as little as 1 hour a month to help publish our school newsletter in both Spanish and English!

PTO Officer

Become a PTO officer or help with PTO duties such as meeting support, backpack mail flyers, marketing, etc.

 

PTO Topic Planner

Coordinate with board and principal the topic for meetings. Contact speaker, advertise event and assist with meeting support.

 

PTO Web Master Team

Help maintain the PTO web page www.adamsparent.org

Time commitment: Very Flexible

 

Staff Appreciation Chair

Coordinate meals for staff at conferences and organize the staff appreciation dinner – a wonderful opportunity to recognize the outstanding Adams staff!

Time commitment: 2-10 hours in May

 

Volunteer Coordinator

Help match volunteers with school and PTO opportunities. 

 

Translation

Help translate PTO materials (meeting agendas, minutes, signs, marketing materials etc) into Spanish.

Time commitment: 1-6 hours per month

 

School Directory Chair

Manage student and parent information, compile, collates and creates bi-annual directory.

Time commitment: 2-20 hours between September and December

 

School Events/Activities

Classroom Volunteering

Help your child’s teacher in the classroom or with classroom needs (i.e. copying, bulletin boards, etc).

Volunteers are also needed for field trips and celebrations as well as daily classroom work.

Time commitment: Very Flexible

 

Grade Level Dinners

Organize pot-luck grade level dinners with teachers.

Time commitment: 1-2 hours – 1 event per grade per year

 

Kinder Round-up

Support kinder team with round-up activities

Time commitment: 1-10 hours in May

 

School Choice Fair

Attend the school choice fair in January/February as a parent to answer questions from potential kindergarten parents and students.

Time commitment: 1-4 hours in February
